After twenty game of speed last night, Kylee and I tucked ourselves in to bed for a long and wonderful sleep (even with cars honking and driving by all day and night long).
Day two in Costa Rica has me counting my blessings back home. I am thankful for speed limits, marked bus stops, cross walks, road signs, hot showers, toilets that flush TP and safe tap water. There's not one time in my life I remember being thankful for speed limits or thinking about how awesome it is that the toilet flushes paper. Seeing how other people live opens my eyes to how much I am blessed with and how convenient it is to take that all for granted.
We woke up this morning and ate some delicious fruit and pan (bread). I then took my first cold shower, it was mucho fria! Then out cute host mom took us to the bus, showed us our school and left us to wander and shop.
We went through their three story mall. There were so many different shops and people. Halfway through our browsing I started feeling way sick. We got across one street from the mall before I had to get on my hands and knees behind this rock. I stayed there for about five minutes trying to throw up, but nothing came out. And if anyone knows me, I would never ever ever try to throw up. My whole body was burning and feeling weird. But I just said, "what the heck" and we were on our way again. I sat by the bathroom at our school for a while then made the trek home. I didn't even cry. Sick in Costa Rica with my most feared sickness (puking) and I have a smile on my face. I'm growing up, seeing the world trough grateful eyes.
We finally rode the bus back a la casa. And I have rested ever since. And ate lunch. My cute host mom said, "no mas Agua" (no more tap water) and made me herbal tea. I am so grateful for her and especially her patience in explaining things to us, as we do not understand much Spanish.
Kylee is the best best friend in the world. :) I'm glad we are bonding on a whole knew level as we look out for each other in a country far from home. I love her!!
Since my weird sickness hit fast and hard, we are just taking it easy this afternoon. Tomorrow we will start our placement which will be a school, orphanage or soup kitchen. I cannot wait to see where we'll be and get started.
Oh man Lo!! So sorry! Remember how I said it was okay to drink the water...not in your case!!! Love you!
