'Tis the Season.

On facebook someone posted: "I don't understand why people say Xmas instead of Christmas. The whole point of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Christ. It's a holiday for Him, so why would you take CHRIST out of CHRISTmas? I don't get it and i think it's disrespectful."

About twenty people liked it, but some of my friends argued against it, that X comes from the greek letter chi and that is the first letter of Christ used in the early Greek versions of the Bible. And her argument was that that is the reason why Christmas is XMas. False.

If that is true for some people who say XMas than that is awesome that you are that knowledgeable and know so much history, it really is. But when we drive by car dealerships and road displays or window displays that say Merry X-mas, it is simply a way to take less time to write it out or to use less space.

Even the decorating in my room, I ran out of room on a sign that I was going to write Christmas on. Did I write xmas as suggested by roommates? No. That is the most important part. So I rewrote the sign.

In this post on facebook there was arguments of science, or Native Americans, of "not everyone being Christians," but I really liked what the Klumkers said:

"Forget science. Jesus Christ is the redeemer of the world and died for ALL of us including you. This man hung on a cross with huge nails stuck into him so that we can all return to our Father in Heaven. He went through all that suffering and we can't even say his name to praise him?! ... Praise Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father for all the countless blessings they have given us! Jesus Christ lives. He loves every single person that walks this earth. Merry Christmas!!!"

"In my mind, the whole don't-call-it-Christmas opinion is not based on a desire to be tolerant and respectful of everyone's beliefs; in fact, it manifests just the opposite--as a Christian, I am discouraged from celebrating publicly, or at least mentioning publicly, a religious holiday that is important to me. Similarly, I think any person should feel free to wish someone a Happy Hanukkah or Happy Diwali or a Happy Ramadan without fear of appearing “intolerant” or narrow-minded. If I’m not Christian, just because I don’t want to celebrate Christmas as a religious holiday doesn’t mean that I should be able to strip the religious connotations of Christmas for those that are. Let everyone celebrate how they want."

As we head into the Christmas season. Just remember what it's about, enjoy celebrating it & saying the words "Merry CHRISTmas."

Aside from the problems Christians sometimes face with not being able to freely express our beliefs as "Christmas breaks" are now "winter breaks" and being "politically correct" is so important, there are also the problems of believing in Christmas and Christ, but forgetting the true reason for celebration.

Christmas Must Be Something More by Taylor Swift

What if ribbons and bows didn't mean a thing
Would the song still survive without five golden rings
Would you still wanna kiss without misletoe
What would happen if God never let it snow
What would happen if Christmas carols told a lie
Tell me what would you find

You'd see that today holds something special
Something holy, not superficial
So here's to the birthday boy who saved our lives
It's something we all try to ignore
And put a wreath up on your door
So here's something you should know that is for sure
Christmas must be something more

What if angels did not pay attention to
All the things that we wished they would always do
What if happiness came in a cardboard box
Then I think there is something we all forgot
What would happen if presents all went away
Tell me what would you find

You'd see that today holds something special
Something holy, not superficial
So here's to the birthday boy who saved our lives
It's something we all try to ignore
And put a wreath up on your door
So here's something you should know that is for sure
Christmas must be something more

We get so caught up in all of it
Business and relationships
Hundred mile an hour lives
And it's this time of year
And everybody's here
It seems the last thing on your mind

Is that the day holds something special
Something holy, not superficial
So here's to Jesus Christ who saved our lives
It's something we all try to ignore
And put a wreath up on your door
But here's something you should know that is for sure
Christmas must be something
Christmas must be something
Christmas must be something more

There's gotta be more
There's gotta be more

SO, THIS MONTH:

*Remember the true reason for celebration:
 the life of Jesus Christ*

*Don't think about what you want,
think about what you can give*

And, from the wise words of Buddy the Elf,
"the best way to spread Christmas cheer is by singing loud for all to hear!"
